Early Career Physicians and Scientists

These clinicians and investigators are either candidates for - or newly appointed to -initial leadership positions over programs, working groups, clinical sites or services, or similar first leadership jobs.  They must smoothly transition from being front-line clinicians or researchers to becoming an effective leader invested in developing the careers of others, who can gain the respect and confidence of the teams they lead, and become accountable delegates for the senior leaders to whom they report.  For these individuals we stress the fundamentals of key leadership capabilities:​

  • Managing people and programs

  • Delegation and holding accountability

  • Functioning in dyadic or triadic partnerships

  • Emotional intelligence

  • Giving and receiving feedback

  • Understanding matrix relationships, and

  • Understanding and contributing to the achievement of organizational goals
